Good job my friends, you haven't forgotten your roots even though you live in America. Giving back to the community is good. I also give back to the community by volunteering in the hospital during my free time. I am also thinking about tutoring inner city kids.
Atma Nirvana and Murali i do agree with you. A Non Profit organisation did a survey about people who give back to the community and to charity. you would be surprised at the results. The people who normally give towards charity and to help the community are not religious.
I work with a nonprofit and the economy is taking a tole on giving financially and of peoples time.
